Melo is a conceptual design that lets users bring the sounds of nature into their homes. With a personal recording device and an intuitive control panel, it allows them to capture, customize, and immerse themselves in their own ambient sound.

After exploring concepts, the idea evolved into an audio mixer paired with a portable recording device. This allows users to capture natural sounds while outdoors, then bring them home
for manual editing and personalized playback.

The physical prototype is constructed from 3D-printed parts with embedded magnets, simulating wall mounting for the control panel and docking for the portable microphone.
Melo includes a wall-mounted control panel and a portable recorder. The control panel features a power button, touch screen display, speaker, volume dial, docking station, and a USB-C port.
The panel attaches magnetically to the wall mount, allowing for easy removal.
The recorder docks into the panel, charging wirelessly while in place.
The recorder includes a directional microphone at the front and wind protection on the sides to minimize unwanted outdoor noise.
It has a power switch, record button, an LED indicator, headphone jack and a USB-C port for charging separately from the console.
Thanks to its compact size, the recorder is easy to carry on a hike, allowing for hassle-free recording whenever you need it.
After a day of recording, Melo will automatically start importing your audio when the recorder docks to the control panel.
Melo’s AI software enhances recordings by reducing noise, identifying wildlife, extending audio with generative AI, and offering manual sound adjustments.
Tracks are organized in a library where users can select favorites, search specific sounds, or play audio based on a chosen mood.
With a built-in speaker and home audio connectivity, Melo lets users control playback location and volume throughout their home.
